The shelter, located near the centre of Ludgershall, was left in a hazardous condition after its glass panels were shattered, with jagged pieces reportedly scattered close to a main road used by both pedestrians and traffic.
At the time of the incident, the cause of the damage was unclear, with local reports describing it as a mystery. However, despite the passage of time since the initial damage, residents say the structure has still not been properly fixed, leaving the area looking neglected and raising ongoing safety worries.
Locals have expressed concern that the delay in repairs reflects a wider issue of maintenance in the area. The damaged shelter remains a visible reminder of the incident, and some residents believe it should have been addressed much sooner due to its central location and regular use by commuters, school children, and elderly passengers.
One resident said the situation is “unacceptable,” adding that the shelter is “used every day and should not be left in this condition for so long.”
Beyond safety risks from broken glass at the time of the incident, residents are also worried about the long-term condition of public infrastructure in Ludgershall. The shelter’s continued state of disrepair has raised questions about response times and responsibility for maintenance in the town.
There are now renewed calls for the relevant authorities to urgently repair or replace the shelter and ensure that similar issues are dealt with more quickly in the future.
Locals say they simply want to see improvements made so that public spaces remain safe, tidy, and properly maintained.
