Salisbury District Hospital Urges Public to Use Alternative Services as Emergency Department Faces High Demand

SALISBURY – Salisbury District Hospital has warned that its Emergency Department is currently experiencing exceptionally high demand, leading to longer waiting times for patients.

Hospital teams are working hard to care for everyone who arrives at the department, but patients are being reminded that those with the most serious and life-threatening conditions will always be prioritised first.

The hospital is encouraging residents to consider other healthcare services if their condition is not an emergency, helping to reduce pressure on the Emergency Department and ensuring patients receive the most appropriate care as quickly as possible.

A spokesperson for Salisbury District Hospital said that while staff continue to provide the highest standard of care, members of the public can often access treatment faster through alternative NHS services.

Residents who are unsure where to seek help are advised to contact NHS 111, which can provide guidance on the most suitable service for their needs.

For minor illnesses and common health concerns, local pharmacies can offer expert advice and treatment without the need for an appointment.

Patients can also make use of the Salisbury Walk-In Centre, which is open during weekdays and weekends, while those suffering from minor head injuries, facial or eye injuries, and fractures may be able to receive treatment at the Minor Injuries Unit in Andover.

Routine health concerns should continue to be managed through local GP services, with appointments booked through the usual channels.

The hospital thanked patients and visitors for their patience and understanding during the busy period.

"Thank you for your patience and understanding while our teams work hard to care for everyone who needs us," the hospital said.

The reminder forms part of the NHS campaign promoting "the right care, at the right place, at the right time", helping patients access the most appropriate healthcare service while easing pressure on emergency departments.
