Planning Decision: New Barn Cottages Application Refused in Amesbury
A recent planning decision by Wiltshire Council has resulted in the refusal of application PL/2025/07249 for development at New Barn Cottages, London Road, Amesbury.

The proposal, which sought to establish a Traveller site in close proximity to the A303 corridor, was formally rejected by council planning officers following assessment of the site’s suitability and surrounding land uses.
Concerns had previously been raised regarding the location of the proposed development. The site lies within a constrained and industrial-adjacent environment, situated only a short distance from the busy A303 trunk road and alongside operational commercial activities, including a vehicle breakers yard and a working timber mill.
Following a request for the application to be “called in” for closer scrutiny last year, the planning authority concluded that the location was not appropriate for residential occupation of families, particularly given the nature of surrounding industrial operations and transport infrastructure.
The decision reflects the council’s assessment that the combination of environmental factors, safety considerations, and neighbouring land use rendered the proposal unsuitable in planning terms.
No further appeal information has been confirmed at this stage.
