Salisbury City Council announced that Councillor Jenny Bolwell has been elected as the 765th The Right Worshipful Mayor of the City of Salisbury, continuing a civic tradition that stretches back centuries.
The ceremony, attended by more than 150 guests including civic dignitaries and visiting mayors from neighbouring towns and cities, marked the formal handover of the mayoral chain and the beginning of a new mayoral year for the city.
Speaking after her appointment, Cllr Bolwell said she felt “deeply honoured” to take on the role and highlighted her commitment to community service throughout her year in office. She also announced that her chosen charity for 2026–2027 will be Salisbury Foodbank, with a focus on raising awareness of poverty and reducing the stigma surrounding food support services.
Cllr Bolwell said the role represents “trust, community and the chance to give something back,” adding that she is looking forward to serving residents across the city during her mayoral term.
Supporting the Mayor during the year ahead will be her Consort, Mr Tom Corbin, while Councillor Victoria Charleston has been appointed Deputy Mayor for 2026–2027.
The Mayor of Salisbury serves as the city’s ceremonial head and civic ambassador, attending local events, supporting charities and promoting Salisbury throughout the region.
The Mayor Making ceremony remains one of Salisbury’s oldest civic traditions and continues to attract strong support from community organisations, local leaders and residents each year.
