End of an era as Durrington's old skate park makes way for a new chapter

The old skate park at Durrington Recreation Ground is being removed as plans progress for a new pump track at the site.

The familiar ramps are now being taken away, marking the end of the existing skate park which has been a feature of the Recreation Ground for many years.

Durrington Town Council has plans to replace the existing facility with a new pump track, providing a different type of recreational space for the community.

An asphalt access path is also included in the plans, providing access to the new facility within the Recreation Ground.

Residents had the opportunity to view the proposals at a community meeting held at Durrington Pavilion on September 18.

At the time, the council said work was expected to begin this autumn, with the removal of the existing skate park forming part of the preparations for the new facility.

The work now taking place means the old skate park is disappearing from the Recreation Ground before the proposed replacement takes shape.

While some residents may be nostalgic about the familiar ramps, the plans represent a new chapter for the site and could provide a different way for local people to use the space.

The pump track is intended to accommodate a wide range of users, with the two-track design providing options for different abilities and levels of experience.

For Durrington, the changes will transform a familiar part of the Recreation Ground, replacing the old skate park with a new facility designed around the community's future recreational needs.
