M6 delays near Birmingham after HGV sheds steel load
Two lanes remain closed on the M6 southbound near Birmingham after an HGV shed steel bars onto the motorway, causing delays of around 30 minutes.
Drivers are facing long delays on the M6 southbound near Birmingham after a heavy goods vehicle (HGV) shed its load, forcing the closure of two lanes.
According to National Highways, lanes one and two remain closed between Junction 6 (Birmingham) and Junction 5 (Sutton Coldfield) while recovery teams work to remove steel bars that spilled across the motorway.
Specialist crews are on site clearing the debris before the damaged HGV can be safely recovered. Traffic officers are also managing the scene to keep road users safe.
Motorists are currently experiencing delays of around 30 minutes, with congestion stretching for approximately three miles on the approach to the incident.
Drivers travelling through the area are advised to allow extra time for their journeys, consider alternative routes where possible and follow instructions from traffic officers.
National Highways said the clean-up operation is ongoing and lane closures will remain in place until the motorway has been made safe and the vehicle recovered.
Road users are encouraged to check the latest traffic updates before travelling, as delays are expected to continue while the incident is cleared.
