Man arrested for attempted murder following serious assault in Purton

Two men have been arrested after a man in his 20s was seriously injured during an alleged stabbing at a construction site in Purton, Wiltshire, on Wednesday morning.

Emergency services were called to the Widham Gardens building site at around 11:05am following reports that a man had been stabbed with a screwdriver. The victim suffered life-threatening injuries and was taken to hospital, where he remains in critical condition.

Following a rapid police investigation, officers arrested a 36-year-old man on suspicion of attempted murder. A second 36-year-old man was also arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender. Both suspects remain in police custody while enquiries continue.

Wiltshire Police have established a cordon around the building site as forensic officers examine the scene and detectives continue their investigation into the incident.

Detective Chief Inspector Deb Hatch described the attack as a serious incident and confirmed the victim's family have been informed. She said officers believe the assault was a targeted and isolated incident, adding that police are not currently looking for anyone else in connection with the investigation.

Residents can expect an increased police presence in the area over the coming days as enquiries continue. Officers are urging anyone who witnessed the incident, or who may have information or footage that could assist the investigation, to come forward.
