Two men arrested after machete incident in Frome linked to Chippenham

Two men have been arrested after an incident in which two people allegedly arrived at a property in Frome, Somerset, carrying machetes.

Wiltshire Police said a vehicle believed to have been involved in the incident was later identified by an automatic number plate recognition (ANPR) camera in Chippenham, around 22 miles (35km) away.

The vehicle was spotted at around 23:00 BST on Friday night, leading armed police officers to attend a residential road in Hunters Field, where two men were arrested.

An 18-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of affray, possessing an offensive weapon in a public place and being concerned in the supply of Class A drugs.

A 20-year-old man was also arrested on suspicion of the same offences, as well as suspected drink driving.

Police said both men have since been released on bail while investigations continue.

The incident has caused concern among residents, although officers have not indicated that there is any wider threat to the public.

Wiltshire Police said enquiries are ongoing and officers are continuing to gather information to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident.
