Two soldiers arrested after armoured vehicle damages cars at Wiltshire barracks

Two soldiers have been arrested after several cars were damaged by a Bulldog armoured vehicle being driven around Swinton Barracks on Perham Down in Wiltshire during the early hours of the morning.

The incident happened at around 01:00 BST on 24 July and involved the military vehicle being driven around roads within the barracks, which forms part of Tidworth Garrison and is home to 26 Engineer Regiment.

Video footage circulating online appeared to show a number of parked vehicles with significant damage, including large dents and debris scattered across the road. The Bulldog armoured vehicle was later photographed parked in a bay within the barracks.

The Bulldog is a heavily armoured tracked vehicle weighing around 15 tonnes, measuring more than 9ft (2.7m) wide and 17ft (5.2m) long. It is capable of reaching speeds of around 32mph.

An Army spokesperson confirmed that two soldiers had been arrested by the Royal Military Police and that a formal investigation is now underway.

In a statement, the Army said it expects the highest standards from all personnel and would not comment further while the investigation continues.

No injuries have been reported, but the damaged vehicles are understood to have been parked within the barracks accommodation area at the time of the incident.

The Royal Military Police are continuing enquiries to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident and whether any further disciplinary or criminal action will be taken.
