Motorists are being urged to avoid the A36 south of Salisbury after a serious road traffic collision forced the route to remain closed for much of Thursday.

Wiltshire Police were called to the incident at around 5:40am on 9 July, with the collision taking place on the A36 between Petersfinger and Brickworth Junction for the A27 near Whiteparish. Initial reports indicate the crash involved a single vehicle.

Police have confirmed the road is expected to remain closed until at least 4:00pm, while emergency services investigate the incident and recovery teams work to clear the scene. Drivers are being advised to follow diversion routes and allow extra time for their journeys.

The closure has caused significant disruption on one of the main routes linking Salisbury with Hampshire, with congestion reported on surrounding roads as traffic is diverted.

At this stage, no further information has been released regarding injuries or the circumstances surrounding the collision. Police say further updates will be provided as the investigation continues.

Anyone planning to travel in the area is advised to check traffic updates before setting off and avoid the A36 if possible until the road has fully reopened.
