Charity brings South Sudan stories to Salisbury with Autumn roadshow.
International development agency Christian Aid is organising a roadshow this autumn, bringing together churches, supporters and some of the organisation’s staff and partners from South Sudan.
Events will be taking place at locations throughout England – including Salisbury – which will give people the chance to hear firsthand the situations people are facing in South Sudan, where conflict and the climate crisis have increased the daily challenges people are living with.
Christian Aid's local partners continue to work alongside communities, helping people build resilience, respond to emergencies and create sustainable change.
The Salisbury Christian Aid Group is inviting people to come along to the Wiltshire event at St Francis Church, on Wednesday, October 14, from 7pm.
Pip Carter, who is the Salisbury CAG organiser, said: “We're really looking forward to meeting Christian Aid's South Sudan partners and colleagues; it's not every day you get the privilege of meeting people face to face and hearing firsthand their experiences and what incredible change can be created when people work together. We look forward to welcoming lots of people along.”
Guests will hear from Angelina Nyajima Simon Jial, the founder and Director of Hope Restoration South Sudan who works with women and girls affected by gender-based violence. She will be talking about the realities facing communities and the importance of locally-led change, as well as how churches can stand alongside, working for justice and hope.
James Wani, Christian Aid’s Programme & Partnership Lead in South Sudan will also be speaking, about the importance of churches in creating change and how collective action can bring hope.
The roadshow will be visiting three other locations in England:
- Derby – Meynell Langley, Lodge Lane, Ashbourne - October 15, 1.30pm
- Coventry – Queens Rd Baptist Church – October 15, 7pm
- Lancaster – Lancaster Priory - October 16, 7pm.
Lisa Britto, Church Engagement and Fundraising Advisor at Christian Aid, said: “These events are a great opportunity to meet other people who share a passion for ending poverty, hear directly from Christian Aid partners about their projects and find out how we can all work together to create real change in places like South Sudan.
“We can’t wait to get together with people and talk about all the amazing things we and our partners are doing. If you’re interested in finding out more, please visit our website to register for a place.”
