GKN Aerospace and Anduril UK partner to develop Britain’s future drone capabilities
GKN Aerospace and Anduril UK have signed a partnership agreement to help develop Britain’s future UAV and autonomous military aircraft capabilities, strengthening the UK defence aerospace sector.
GKN Aerospace has announced a new partnership with Anduril UK aimed at helping develop the next generation of uncrewed aerial vehicle (UAV) capabilities for the United Kingdom.
The agreement brings together GKN Aerospace’s expertise in aircraft structures, manufacturing and integration with Anduril’s advanced autonomous defence technology and software systems.
The two companies say the partnership is intended to support the UK’s future military drone programmes, including autonomous aircraft designed for surveillance, reconnaissance, logistics and combat support missions.
GKN Aerospace said the collaboration would focus on combining airframe design, propulsion integration, mission systems and autonomous technologies to create more capable and adaptable UAV platforms for the UK armed forces.
The announcement reflects growing investment in uncrewed systems as modern militaries increasingly look to drones to work alongside crewed aircraft, reduce risks to personnel and provide greater operational flexibility.
Anduril UK, the British arm of the US defence technology company founded by entrepreneur Palmer Luckey, has been expanding its presence in the UK defence sector and has already been involved in autonomous and AI-enabled military projects.
The companies say the partnership will also help strengthen the UK’s sovereign defence industrial base, supporting high-value engineering jobs and advanced aerospace manufacturing within Britain.
The collaboration is expected to contribute to future UK defence programmes involving autonomous aircraft, collaborative combat systems and next-generation air power technologies, areas that are becoming increasingly important as part of the UK’s wider defence modernisation plans.
GKN Aerospace described the agreement as an important step towards delivering rapidly deployable, highly autonomous UAV capabilities that could support both current military operations and future air combat requirements.
