Murder investigation underway after man's death in Ludgershall
Wiltshire Police have launched a murder investigation after a man in his 60s was found dead in woodland near a polo field close to Perham Down.
A murder investigation has been launched following the death of a man in his 60s whose body was discovered in woodland near Ludgershall.
Wiltshire Police were called at around 3.14pm on Thursday, 24 September, following concerns for the welfare of a man in the area.
Around two hours later, the body of a man in his 60s was found in woodland close to a polo field near Perham Down.
Police initially treated the man's death as unexplained while enquiries were carried out.
However, following information received during the initial post-mortem examination, officers have now confirmed that the death is being treated as suspicious and a murder investigation has been launched.
A police cordon remains in place at the scene while detectives continue their enquiries.
Wiltshire Police said the man's next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specially trained officers.
Residents and people travelling through the area may notice an increased police presence while officers continue their investigation.
Detectives are expected to carry out further enquiries in the surrounding area as they work to establish the circumstances leading up to the man's death.
Police have not released the man's identity and have not provided further details about how he died while the investigation remains ongoing.
