In recent days, we have received numerous reports involving youths causing alarm and distress to members of the public and centre staff.

This has included fighting, pushing an elderly shopper, making threats to security guards and criminal damage to doors and benches.

As a result, a section 35 dispersal order is in place until midnight tonight, and further dispersal orders will be in place over the weekend.

These orders give officers full dispersal powers for anyone suspected of engaging in antisocial behaviour or disorder.

Those who fail to leave when directed, or return to the area within 48 hours after being dispersed, will be arrested.

Swindon Inspector David Tippetts said: “This antisocial behaviour around the Brunel Centre in recent days has caused significant distress for workers, shoppers and residents alike.

“As a result, we are enacting these dispersal orders as a measure to target those causing disorder in the specified area.

“Anybody found to be involved in antisocial behaviour will be dealt with swiftly and robustly.”
