Police Appeal After Objects Thrown From Footbridge Onto A303 Near Amesbury

Wiltshire Police are appealing for witnesses and dashcam footage after objects were thrown from a footbridge onto the A303 near Amesbury, damaging vehicles and raising concerns about the risk of serious accidents.

Amesbury Police said they had received two reports of young people throwing items onto the busy road from the footbridge between Ratfyn Road and Ratfyn Farm.

On both occasions, vehicles travelling along the A303 were struck by objects, resulting in damage.

 Police Appeal

Police have warned that the behaviour is extremely dangerous, particularly given the speed of traffic on the A303. Objects thrown from a bridge can distract drivers, damage vehicles and potentially cause serious or fatal collisions.

Following the second reported incident, officers from Amesbury's Neighbourhood Policing Team and Response Team stopped a small group of young people nearby.

Enquiries are ongoing as officers work to establish exactly what happened and identify those responsible.

Police are now asking motorists who were travelling along the A303 near Amesbury at the times of the reported incidents to come forward with any information that could assist the investigation.

The first incident was reported at approximately 4.08pm on Friday, 16 October, while the second occurred at around 2.02pm on Wednesday, 21 October.

Officers are particularly interested in hearing from drivers who may have dashcam footage showing anyone on the footbridge between Ratfyn Road and Ratfyn Farm around those times.

Even footage that does not directly capture an object being thrown could help officers establish what happened and identify those involved.

Anyone with relevant footage or information is asked to email Amesbury Police at AmesburyAreaNPT@wiltshire.police.uk, quoting crime reference number 54260127238.

Police are urging anyone who witnesses similar behaviour to report it, as throwing objects onto a busy road can put the lives of motorists and other road users at serious risk.
