Salisbury cyclist dies following collision with van in Wilton
A cyclist from Salisbury has died following a collision with a MAN panel van on The Avenue in Wilton. Police are appealing for witnesses as investigations continue.
A cyclist from Salisbury has died following a collision with a van in Wilton on Saturday evening.
Emergency services were called to The Avenue just before 6pm after reports of a serious road traffic collision involving a cyclist and a MAN panel van.
According to police, the cyclist had been travelling southbound when they collided with the front of the northbound van. Despite the efforts of emergency responders, the cyclist was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the van stopped following the collision and is assisting officers with their enquiries.
Police have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident and are appealing for witnesses or anyone with dashcam footage to come forward.
Officers are particularly keen to hear from anyone who was travelling along The Avenue around the time of the collision and may have seen either the cyclist or the van before the crash.
The road was closed for several hours while collision investigators examined the scene, with motorists advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes.
The cyclist's next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specially trained officers. Formal identification and a file for the coroner will follow as enquiries continue.
