Police issue warning after cannabis-laced gummies disguised as sweets discovered

Wiltshire Police have issued an urgent warning after cannabis-infused gummies disguised as popular sweets were discovered in the county, raising concerns that children or unsuspecting adults could accidentally consume them.

Officers said the edible products closely resemble ordinary confectionery, making them particularly dangerous if they fall into the wrong hands. The force is urging parents, carers and members of the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious products.

Cannabis edibles often contain THC, the psychoactive ingredient found in cannabis. Unlike smoking the drug, the effects of edible products can take much longer to appear, increasing the risk of people consuming more than intended.

Police warned that children are especially vulnerable because the packaging and appearance of the gummies can look almost identical to well-known sweets. Consuming cannabis edibles can cause serious side effects, including confusion, dizziness, vomiting, anxiety, breathing difficulties and, in some cases, the need for emergency medical treatment.

Wiltshire Police are advising parents to speak with their children about the dangers of accepting sweets or food from unknown sources and to check packaging carefully if they have any concerns.

Anyone who comes across suspected cannabis-laced sweets should avoid consuming them and contact Wiltshire Police. If someone becomes seriously unwell after eating suspected cannabis edibles, they should seek immediate medical attention or call 999.

The warning forms part of ongoing efforts by the force to tackle illegal drugs and protect communities across Wiltshire from harmful substances being sold or distributed in misleading packaging.
