Rose and Crown in Bulford to Close After Rising Business Costs

The Rose and Crown pub in Bulford has announced it will close its doors, with Sunday confirmed as its final day of trading, following mounting financial pressures.

The pub shared the news with customers on social media, explaining that rising operating costs had made it increasingly difficult to keep the business running.

In its announcement, the team cited high overheads, increasing beer prices, rent and utility bills as the main reasons behind the decision. Despite efforts to keep the pub open, the financial pressures had become too great to overcome.

The Rose and Crown said it had tried a range of initiatives to attract customers and maintain business, including live music, events, special deals, food promotions and other activities designed to bring people together.

Although these efforts had proved successful in attracting support, the pub explained that the additional business was not enough to cover its rising costs.

The closure marks the end of a chapter for a venue that has provided a place for local residents to meet, socialise and enjoy entertainment in Bulford.

In its farewell message, the team thanked customers for their support, hard work and the many enjoyable moments shared at the pub. The announcement also recognised the people who had helped behind the bar during busy periods.

Among the highlights mentioned was the pub's quiz night, which had become a popular activity among its customers.

There may, however, be some good news for quiz enthusiasts. The team said it hoped to move the quiz to The New Inn in Amesbury, thanking Nate and Jema for their support in potentially helping the event continue at a new venue.

Before the pub closes, the team is offering discounted food and drinks while remaining stock is available.

Meals are being offered for £5 each, regardless of the dish, subject to availability. Customers were also told to expect heavily reduced prices on pints and spirits as the pub works through its remaining stock.

The team warned that trading would finish once the remaining supplies had been sold, meaning availability could change throughout the final weekend.

The announcement has brought an emotional response from the pub's team, who expressed their affection for the community and thanked everyone who had been part of the journey.

For regular customers, the final weekend offers an opportunity to visit the Rose and Crown one last time, enjoy a meal or a drink, and show their appreciation for the people who have run the pub.

The closure also highlights the financial challenges facing hospitality businesses, where rising rent, utilities, drinks prices and other operating expenses can make it increasingly difficult to remain viable, even when venues continue to attract customers.

While the Rose and Crown prepares to close, the team hopes that at least one part of its community spirit, the popular quiz night, will continue in Amesbury.

Customers planning to visit should check the Rose and Crown's official Facebook page for the latest updates on opening arrangements and the availability of food and drinks.
