Salisbury City Council seeks volunteers to help monitor CCTV and keep city safe

Salisbury City Council is calling for volunteers to join its dedicated CCTV monitoring team and help support public safety across the city.

The council operates a state-of-the-art CCTV and radio system, with trained volunteer operators working alongside police, local businesses and other city partners to monitor activity and report incidents when necessary.

The volunteer team plays an important role in helping keep Salisbury safe, particularly across the city centre and during busy periods.

The council is looking for people aged 18 and over who are comfortable using technology, able to multitask and capable of remaining calm when dealing with potentially challenging situations.

Applicants should also have good attention to detail, be able to think quickly and have a genuine interest in helping their local community.

Successful applicants will be required to complete a police vetting process before beginning comprehensive training for the role.

The position provides an opportunity for local people to become more involved in their community while developing useful skills and supporting the work of the police and other organisations.

CCTV can play an important role in helping create a safer environment for residents, visitors and businesses, whether people are shopping in the city during the day, visiting local attractions or enjoying Salisbury's nightlife.

Keith Jackson, Salisbury City Council's CCTV Manager, said volunteering as a CCTV operator offers a rewarding opportunity to give something back to the community while developing valuable skills.

He said volunteers could make a real difference to the safety of Salisbury and help protect the people who live, work and visit the city.
