Bonnymead Play Park officially opens after major £500,000 transformation
Bonnymead Play Park has officially opened in Amesbury following a £500,000 transformation, offering modern and inclusive play equipment for families to enjoy.
Families in Amesbury are celebrating the official opening of the newly refurbished Bonnymead Play Park following a major £500,000 redevelopment designed to create a modern destination play area for the town. It will open on Friday, 10th July 2026 at 4:00 PM.
The popular park has undergone a complete transformation, replacing ageing equipment with a wide range of new play features suitable for children of all ages and abilities. The project was funded by Amesbury Town Council and shaped by feedback from local residents during a public consultation.

To mark the opening, the Town Council hosted a free community event featuring face painting, entertainment, games and refreshments, with families invited to be among the first to enjoy the new facilities. The celebration attracted dozens of local residents eager to explore the upgraded playground.
The refurbished park includes inclusive play equipment, climbing frames, swings, slides and accessible features designed to ensure children of all abilities can enjoy the space. New additions such as a wheelchair-accessible roundabout and see-saw were incorporated following requests from residents during the consultation process.

Bonnymead Recreation Ground is already one of Amesbury's most popular outdoor spaces, offering a skate park, multi-use games area, outdoor fitness equipment and riverside walks alongside the new playground. The site has been protected as a Fields in Trust location since 2012, ensuring it remains available for future generations.
Amesbury Town Council said it hopes the new play park will become a key attraction for local families and visitors alike, providing a safe, inclusive and exciting place for children to play for many years to come.
