More than 100 firefighters battle major blaze at Essex industrial estate

More than 100 firefighters have been called to tackle a large fire at an industrial unit in Essex, with emergency services urging nearby residents to keep windows and doors closed because of heavy smoke.

The blaze broke out at a commercial premises, prompting a major response from Essex County Fire and Rescue Service. Numerous fire engines and specialist crews were sent to the scene as firefighters worked to bring the flames under control.

Large plumes of black smoke could be seen rising above the area, with smoke visible from several miles away. Residents living nearby were advised to avoid the area where possible and follow guidance issued by emergency services.

Firefighters remained at the scene throughout the incident, using aerial ladder platforms and other specialist equipment to prevent the fire from spreading to neighbouring buildings.

Emergency services have not confirmed the cause of the fire, and investigations will begin once it is safe for crews to enter the affected building.

There have been no immediate reports of serious injuries, although ambulance crews were placed on standby as a precaution while firefighters continued their operations.

Road closures were put in place around the industrial estate to allow emergency vehicles access and to keep the public away from the hazardous area.

Essex County Fire and Rescue Service said the incident was expected to continue for several hours and thanked members of the public for their patience while crews worked to make the scene safe.
