Pitton Post Office to move to community shop to maintain local service
Pitton Post Office is set to move from High Street to Pitton Community Shop on White Hill, with the new branch expected to open in October and provide 43 hours of service each week.
Post Office has announced plans to relocate Pitton Post Office in order to maintain long-term postal services for the village and surrounding area.
The branch is expected to move from its current premises on High Street, Pitton, Salisbury, SP5 1DQ, to Pitton Community Shop & Post Office, White Hill, Pitton, Salisbury, SP5 1DU.
The change follows the resignation of the current postmaster, with the existing High Street premises set to be withdrawn for Post Office use. A new postmaster has been appointed and has identified the community shop as the proposed new location for the branch.
According to Post Office, the current branch is scheduled to close on Monday 28 September at 1pm, with the new service due to open on Monday 5 October at 1pm.
The relocated branch will provide 43 hours of service each week, with opening hours of:
- Monday to Friday: 9am – 5pm
- Saturday: 9am – 12 noon
Customers will be able to access the same range of Post Office products and services from a serving point located within the retail counter of the Pitton Community Shop.
The new premises are approximately 290 metres from the current branch, and roadside parking is available nearby.
During the short period between the closure of the existing branch and the opening of the new one, customers can use nearby alternatives including Winterslow Post Office and Alderbury Post Office.
While Post Office says the decision to relocate the branch is a commercial decision and is not subject to consultation, it is inviting residents to provide feedback on access into and inside the new premises.
The consultation period for comments on accessibility and customer convenience will remain open until 11 September.
Post Office said the move is intended to ensure that Pitton continues to benefit from a local postal service and that the community shop location will help safeguard access to essential services for residents in the future.
