Salisbury Paralympic star Sally Kidson ready for World Boccia Championships in Seoul

Salisbury Paralympic star Sally Kidson is gearing up to compete at the World Boccia Championships in Seoul from 26^th-31^st August

She features in an eight-strong Great Britain squad and will go head to head with the world’s best in the BC3 category.

Boccia is the fastest-growing disability sport in the world and the Paralympic sport is a game of strategy, accuracy and tension.

Players must throw, roll or kick balls as close as possible to a white target ball, known as the “jack.” Kidson competes in the BC3 category. She has Spinal Muscular Atrophy type 2 which means she is unable to throw or kick the ball so she uses a ramp and a ramp operator:

“Even those with a severe weakness as myself can compete in the BC3 class - all you need to do is be able to direct your assistant to line up the ramp and place the ball, release the ball, and - most importantly - think tactically and strategically.”

The 21-year-old may be making her World Championships debut yet she brings strong experience from competing at the 2024 Paralympic Games. The ace from Salisbury is also European Champion:

“I’m really looking forward to the World Championships – the whole squad has been working hard this season and have been culminating our efforts towards putting in a good performance at this tournament. I feel like I’m in a good place both individually and in the pair so really looking forward to being able to put myself to the test against some of the best sides in the world. It will be a test for sure but I’m looking forward to bringing my experience to the forefront to try and overcome the pressure.

She teams up with established player Patrick Wilson in the BC3 Pair. The duo will surely take a confidence boost from winning bronze at the Povoa World Cup last month. Having recently formed a Pairs partnership, they have only played together for three World Cups, yet they have medalled twice.
