Passengers travelling on an easyJet flight to the UK faced major disruption after their aircraft was forced to make an emergency diversion following an apparent engine failure.

The flight, which was travelling from Greece to Manchester, diverted to Munich Airport in Germany after the crew reported a technical problem with one of the aircraft's engines. The pilots landed the plane safely, and no injuries were reported among passengers or crew.

Travellers described a tense atmosphere on board as the aircraft changed course before landing in Germany. Emergency services were on standby as a precaution, but the aircraft landed without further incident.

Following the diversion, passengers said they were left stranded for several hours while easyJet arranged alternative travel plans. Some travellers reported delays in receiving information about accommodation and replacement flights.

EasyJet confirmed the aircraft diverted because of a technical issue and apologised for the disruption caused to customers. The airline said the safety of passengers and crew is always its highest priority and that engineers would inspect the aircraft before it returned to service.

A replacement aircraft was arranged to complete the journey after the affected plane was taken out of operation for further checks.

Although engine-related diversions are uncommon, aviation experts say commercial aircraft are designed to continue flying safely even if one engine develops a fault. Flight crews are trained to follow strict emergency procedures, and modern aircraft are capable of landing safely using a single engine when required.

Passengers affected by significant delays or cancellations may be entitled to assistance, including meals, accommodation and, depending on the circumstances, compensation under UK and European passenger rights regulations.
