Australian authorities are investigating the discovery of six mysterious silver spheres that washed up on a beach in Queensland, with experts examining whether the objects could be debris from a spacecraft.

The large metallic spheres were found on Forrest Beach, north of Townsville, over the weekend. Emergency services quickly established a 50-metre exclusion zone while specialist teams wearing protective suits recovered the objects amid concerns they could contain hazardous materials.

Queensland Fire Department officials warned members of the public not to touch the objects if they encounter similar items, urging anyone who finds suspicious debris to move away and contact emergency services immediately.

The Australian Space Agency has been asked to help determine the origin of the spheres. Early speculation suggests they may be propellant tanks from a spacecraft or rocket, which can sometimes contain traces of highly flammable or reactive chemicals even after re-entering Earth's atmosphere.

Photographs from the scene showed the silver spheres being carefully placed into sealed hazardous materials containers under police supervision before being transported away for further examination.

The unusual discovery has attracted widespread attention, with local residents expressing curiosity about where the objects came from. Forrest Beach business owner Lisa Scobie said the normally quiet community had been buzzing with excitement since the spheres were found.

Australia has experienced similar incidents before. In 2023, a large cylindrical object that washed ashore on a beach in Western Australia was later confirmed to be debris from an Indian Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV). Similar spherical objects have also been discovered in other parts of the world, including Namibia, where experts believed they were rocket fuel tanks.

Investigators are now working to identify the spacecraft or launch vehicle responsible for the debris and to confirm whether the objects pose any environmental or public safety risks.
