The Odstock Health & Fitness Centre has been named ‘Gym of the Year’, following a public vote organised by the Salisbury Journal. The award reflects strong community support for the facility, which continues to play a key role in health, wellbeing, and rehabilitation across the Salisbury area.

The newspaper ran a ballot inviting readers to choose the best health and fitness facility in the region. The competition highlighted venues that go beyond standard gym services, recognising those that offer expert coaching, inclusive classes, and a strong sense of community for members of all ages and abilities.

Speaking after the announcement, Odstock Health & Fitness Centre Manager Sally Crook said the recognition meant a great deal to the team.

“Being named Gym of the Year, voted by the community, means a tremendous amount to our team,” she said. “The highly trained and qualified team work hard to offer an encouraging, friendly environment, supporting our members and casual users, whether they’re hospital staff, patients or members of the public, through their exercise journey whether they are recovering from illness or injury, entering the world of fitness for the first time, or simply looking for tips and advice.”

Located on the grounds of Salisbury District Hospital, the centre offers a wide range of facilities including two swimming pools, a fully equipped gym, fitness classes, squash courts, treatment services, and meeting and function rooms.

A key part of its community offering is the Odstock Orcas swim school, which delivers lessons for all ages from babies through to adults. The centre also runs swimming squads and works in partnership with the charity Level Water, providing tailored lessons for children with special educational needs in the local area.

Sally Crook added that the centre’s impact goes far beyond fitness alone.

“The Odstock Health & Fitness Centre is essential to the wellbeing of hospital staff, patients and the local community,” she said. “With the wide range of activities available, there is something to offer everyone. Social groups are made, friendships formed, and the team are always there to deliver with their enthusiasm and passion.”

The award highlights the centre’s growing reputation not only as a fitness facility, but as a community hub supporting physical and mental wellbeing across Salisbury.
