BMW has unveiled its all-new X5 with up to 612hp, introducing multiple powertrains including hybrid, petrol and electric options as part of a major SUV redesign for 2026.
BMW has revealed its all-new X5, marking one of the most significant redesigns in the model’s history and introducing power outputs of up to 612hp across a wide range of electrified and performance variants.
The new generation SUV adopts BMW’s latest design language and is expected to offer multiple drivetrain options, including petrol, diesel mild-hybrid, plug-in hybrid, full electric and even future hydrogen technology. It is the first time the X5 platform has been engineered to support five different propulsion systems.
At the top of the range, performance-focused versions are expected to deliver around 612hp, putting the large SUV firmly into high-performance territory while still maintaining everyday practicality. The fully electric iX5 variant is also expected to become the flagship model, offering instant torque and rapid acceleration alongside long-distance capability.
BMW has also focused heavily on technology and efficiency, with the new X5 featuring a redesigned interior, advanced driver assistance systems, and improved digital interfaces aimed at creating a more connected driving experience.
Under the skin, the SUV benefits from upgraded suspension systems and chassis improvements designed to balance comfort and sportiness, with adaptive dampers and optional rear-wheel steering available on higher trims. The brand is aiming to make the X5 more versatile than ever, appealing to both performance enthusiasts and family buyers.
The launch of the new X5 continues BMW’s broader shift towards electrification while maintaining performance-focused variants for traditional drivers, with sales expected to roll out from 2026 into 2027 depending on the model.
